Kindy Pilot Program in Sea Turtles
Learning through play at this age is essential to building solid learning foundations.
The benefits of learning through play;
They discover their independence and positive self esteem;
It nurtures their creativity and imagination;
It develops their fine and gross motor skills; and
Through problem solving they learn cause and effect.
This weeks activity
To promote the children’s’ early math skills and shape recognition abilities, we prepared a discovery experience for the children.
What we needed for this activity:
- A large wooden box with three sections;
- sand;
- shape cards; and
- number cards.
What we did next
- We placed the sectioned wooden box on the table.
- In each section was a shape card hidden by sand.
- Each child used a paint brush to brush the sand away inside each section, as they brushed a specific shape was revealed.
- The children were queried as more of each shape was uncovered as to what they could see appearing.
The children confidently identified each shape correctly while displaying enthusiasm and curiosity for learning. This exercise was then repeated for the number card.
Until next week
