Exploring fine Motor Skills with Our Little fish children
Exploring our fine motor skills with Poms Poms and Pegs.
And you thought pegs were just to hang the washing.
If you’re at home and looking for play ideas, activities and crafts; bring out the pegs!
They are great for building strength of fine motor muscle and coordination; and
They encourage the pinching action between the thumb and the finger which helps in the development of good finger grip.
Fine Motor and Sensory Play
To extend on our sensory play activity today we added an extra fine motor component to our pom pom ball painting.
We demonstrated and invited the children to use the pegs to pick up their pom pom balls and then dip them into the paint.
I encouraged the children to explore the painting process in their own way.
Some of the children decided that using the pegs were too hard and chose to use their fingers instead (which still is a good way to promote fine motor skills)
Some decided it would be much more interesting to explore LOTS of pom pom balls;
While others focused their energy on using the pegs to continue with their painting.
Many different interpretations on this process and all were simply wonderful!!
Painting with Pom Poms
Painting with Pompoms is a fun activity for toddlers to explore colours and experiment with a new paint tool.
In this activity we are intentionally developing Self-expression with paint;
Eye and hand coordination;
Fine motor development;
Exploring with a new paint tool;
Recognition of colours; and
Sense of achievement.
