Spicy, Scented& Sensory Art
Our nature theme for this month is the autumn.
Today we have opened up a bunch of spices from our kitchen cupboard and just explored all the colours, scents and textures.
Our focus was autumn themed painting using the following spices:
- Cinnamon to make brown paint (for tree trunks);
- Paprika for red leaves;
- Ginger for yellow leaves; and
- Chili powder for reddish-orange leaves.
Making the Paint
To make the paint, we took the yolk from 4 eggs and mixed each with about a tablespoon of spice.
The paints ended up having a really interesting texture somewhat grainy.
Of course the paint smelled wonderful!
The colours turned out really intense and made perfect colours for autumn trees!
The cinnamon paint was the strongest in colour and scent, so that was a definite favourite with the children.
We all loved this activity. The painting was fun but the sensory aspect was a real treat to the senses.
We learnt all about spices too, so we can help mum bake!
This activity brought a sense of freedom, creativity, expression, colours and endless possibilities.
It was a hit with the children with a request to do it again soon.
That’s all from Miss Roshin, Miss Coby and the Jomgwongs this month.
