World Travelers virtual style.

This term the pre-prep class has been on an around the world adventure.

Each week they have visited a new and exciting continent.

Our latest stop was the continent of South America to visit the Amazon Rainforest. With the assistance of modern technology and Google Earth the class flew over the world’s largest rainforest.

Our Inspiration

This bird’s eye view of the amazon was the inspiration used to create a unique collaborative paper collage art piece.

The children all worked together to use small pieces of green paper to represent the vast tree canopy along the winding Amazon River.

Did you know that the Amazon Rainforest covers 8 countries and is home to over 3 million species of animals?

What we did next

Using an online animal encyclopedia, the children selected an animal of interest.

They then created their own illustration by referencing an image of the animal.

Once completed, their illustration was added to the collaborative art piece.

The class has also enjoyed listening to the different sounds of South America, consisting of;

  • The drums of Brazil;
  • Tambourine and charango (similar to a mandolin) of Peru; and
  • The quena, a simple flute made of bamboo from Bolivia.

Next Stop On The Itinerary

On our next flight the class will be heading to North America to visit the Grand Canyon and other famous landmarks.

That’s all from Miss Patti and the Sea Turtles.
