Creating A Positive Classroom Environment

Developing respectful and positive relationships between children is one of the foundation skills taught through our centres’ “Mindful Kids” Resilience program.

Throughout Term 1 the pre-prep children have been participating in;

  • Discussions
  • Role plays and
  • Learning opportunities to build a classroom environment.

This fosters empathy, positive choices and respect. Educators harness this by facilitating exciting and interactive activities to remind our brains about positive choices.

Interactive lessons

Online interactive lessons are a new tool we have been using this term to encourage active participation. The children are able to interact via the smart board’s touch technology, engaging with the lessons in real time. The child friendly animations add a new depth to every lesson.

Each digital lesson is followed with open discussions about what we can do in different situations, such as:

  • Practising walking feet inside;
  • Using loud voices outside;
  • Playing safely outside;
  • Being of help in the classroom;
  • How to treat others;
  • Respecting classroom toys and resources; and
  • When is it important to use our manners.

Following this interactive exercise, the children had an opportunity to participate in structuring relatable pictures, by cutting, pasting and deciding where they believed the correct picture belonged.

Learning Environment

Being in a learning environment which supports safe and respectable behaviours, where children are given clear boundaries and opportunities to practice self-regulation as part of the daily program, enables children to develop both emotionally and physically at their own pace.

Each and every day the class room expectations are revised, followed by our growth mindset song and setting the intentions for a successful day.

Young children are just learning how to regulate their emotions, behaviours and cognition.

They can’t do it alone. They need to be guided.

That’s all from Miss Patti, Miss Tracy and the the sea turtles (Pingin) children.
