All about Me

What is unique about me? What do I like?, What am I good at? What are my interests? The start of a new school year is the perfect time to explore the topic ā€œAll about meā€.

The intentional conversations we create with each child to learn about their ideas and experiences;

  • helps the class to build quality relationships; and
  • create a sense of belonging amongst each other.

It is very common for young children, particularly pre-school aged children, to be egocentric. They haveĀ  a lot of stories they want to share about themselves.

Each day they are bursting at the seams to share all of their exciting information and usually all at once.

This is completely normal and developmentally appropriate for this age group!

Over the past few weeks, the Pre-Prep class has been getting to know each other through a series of learning opportunities.

One of the activities was to identify the characteristics that make them unique. I then added this information to an ‘All About Me’ booklet.

These Booklets will become a part of their learning folios.

They have also shared their learning goals and personal interests which will be used to support their learning.

Recognising that others in the class have similar interests can be a starting point for fostering relationships among peers.

Teaching children to share their;

  • likes,
  • dislikes,
  • talents and
  • struggles,

helps other children see how we all are different, yet unique in our own way.

As children grow older, they start to develop empathy and are able to see different points of view.
