Gingerbread Shapes
Gingerbread men are the most popular shape, but trees and stars make for a great variation.
Fun fact about Gingerbread men…Queen Elisabeth 1 (reigned 1558-1603) invented the gingerbread man and would delight visiting dignitaries, by baking them in their likeness.
The folk tale however, first appeared in an 1875 issue of St. Nicholas magazine.
A GREAT FUN FESTIVE RECIPE TO BE DONE WITH THE KIDS.
Ingredients
- Three cups plain flour
- 120grams butter
- 2 teaspoon bi-carb soda
- ½ teaspoon ground gloves
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup golden syrup
- one egg
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Method
- Combine all ingredients, knead until smooth.
- Roll between 2 sheets of baking paper, refrigerate until chilled.
- Place chilled dough on bench and cut out you gingerbread man, tree or star.
- Bake for 10 minutes on 160 degrees, keep a close eye on you gingerbread shapes.
- Pull out of oven and let least for 30 minutes then they are ready to be decorated.
Christmas activity
Use any small lollies you like for the decorations, kids will love creating their own gingerbread man.
These store great in air tight container, even wrap some up in cellophane as a Christmas gift.
